Nelson DeMille is an author who makes the bestseller lists all around the world every time he pens another book. I’ve only just got around to reading one of his novels, but wish now I’d discovered this author earlier. He is a darn good writer, with a strong and unique voice, and he delivers a page-turning, slightly over-the-top, but very entertaining read laced with an undercurrent of humour. Detective John Corey is one of the central characters in this novel. He is a detective who has retired on disability from the NYPD to work with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force. He works with his wife, who is an FBI agent. John is a man of action who can handle any situation with a smart-arse attitude and moves to match. The other central character is Asad Khalik, ‘The Lion’, who is an infamous terrorist, who murders in cold-blood without any remorse. He is basically a fanatical psychotic nutter who hates the West, but he’s also an intelligent and cunning man which makes him one of the most dangerous men on the planet. John and The Lion have encountered each other before, so it is no surprise when The Lion turns up again in John’s life seeking revenge. The surprise is that the attack happens during a sky-dive, and The Lion manages to have a knife around John’s wife when she is in mid-air...
